Join the Hiking Challenge

Join the Greater Wasatch Broadband, Great Old Broads for Wilderness for our Broads View! 2020 Hiking Challenge.
Kick-off:  June 6
Final Challenge:  October 17
Presented by the Greater Wasatch Broadband of Utah

    • Individual or group challenge
    • Track miles hiked, trails explored, total vertical, summits reached, trash collected, money donated, or whatever gets you motivated to get outside
    • Post your challenge on the Broads View Blog and update your results
It's simple to get started! Send your name and email address to: greatwasatch@gmail.com and you'll be added to the challenge list.

    Why participate?
The more you touch public lands, the greater your appreciation. Each day on the trail brings an unexpected surprise - a new flower or tree, a bird you never noticed, maybe a fox or deer - one never knows.

Here are a few Challenge examples:
    Barbara McConvill, Co-leader GWB
Along with my husband Mike and our two dogs, we are going to explore every trail that is under the Trails Foundation of Northern Utah umbrella (Mike is a new board member). There are almost 70 of them. On each outing we will collect trash and for each day of adventure we will donate equally to Great Old Broads and Trails Foundation. Each month we will write a personal note to one of the entities involved with the trails, thanking them for their efforts. We hope to do the last hike of the season with lots of trail challenge participants!

Di Allison and Janifer Larson, Co-leaders, GWB
Ascension of Lewis Peak is our Challenge. Jan anticipates knee surgery in June and will train with Di and others to be able to meet the challenge in October! We will hike trails in Utah, Idaho and Montana during the summer to prepare for Lewis Peak. Come join us!

After every adventure, add your comments to the Blog so we can all enjoy your progress towards your big Challenge on October 17.

    It's Time for Stewardship!

Here's what we have been up to?
    • National Trails Day Stewardship Project - National Trails Day is June 6 and we will be working on the Winter's Grove Nature Trails in the Ogden Valley. To ensure social  distancing we are going to do our project in 2-person, one hour shifts starting at 10:00 a.m. The number of shifts will be determined by how many of you are interested in volunteering. Projects include trash pick-up (it's generally a pretty clean trail), brush and grass trimming, sanding, priming, and painting two benches. We'll get more details out to each volunteer as we get closer to the 6th. To volunteer please email Barbara@mcconvill.com or call  801-721-1580. Please indicate what shift works the best for you.
    • Our summer hiking challenge will kick off on June 6. More details to follow but it's going to be lots of fun. Janifer Larson is heading up this challenge.
